Relax on the famous bullet train from Tokyo and in 77 minutes you will be swept from clear blue Tokyo skies to a winter wonderland in the heart of the Japanese Alps.

Yuzawa is a famous Japanese resort town with 20 ski fields, and is known throughout Japan as "Snow Country".

A huge range of hotels, restaurants, karaoke, international bars and traditional Japanese snow festivals all combine to bring any visitor a unique Japan experience.

Areas close to Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture
There are a large number of ski resorts within a 30min radius of Echigo Yuzawa train station. Naeba and Ishiuchi are two of the more famous.

Each area offers something different: for example, staying at Mitsumata is a good option for those who want to catch that first lift at Kagura ski resort.

WeLoveSnow covers the most attractive areas, and lists them on this page

Nozawa Onsen, Nagano Prefecture
This is a great place to visit for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels. This is a traditional Japanese spa village, with one of the best ski resorts in Japan.

Access is slightly more involved than for other areas, and accommodation options tend to be Japanese style.

For those looking for a taste of Japanese culture with their winter sports, Nozawa Onsen is highly recommended.

Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture

As the host for various events in the Nagano Olympics, Hakuba has established a reputation for the quality of its resorts and snow conditions.

The Hakuba valley has 7 main ski resorts to try within easy traveling distance.
