backcountry ski tour

Get out into the backcountry...

If you want to get off the beaten track and hit that fresh powder, why not hit the backcountry?

We have teamed up with a local backcountry tour operator to offer a bi-lingual professional guided tour.

With this tour, you can not only hit the fresh snow, but also learn about the safety aspects of back country ski and snowboarding.

The backcountry tour kicks off at the base of Mitsumata Ski resort at 8.30am. After boarding to the top of the connected Kagura resort, it is time to get the snow-shoes on and start the walk up to the next mountain.

The ascent is around 300m, and takes a leisurely 2 hours - just enough to get you away from it all, but not too exhausting to put you off your riding!

The hike is completed using rented show-shoes and stocks.

avalanche safety

Safety is paramount

Our tour has a strong emphasis on safety and education.

Before setting off, our guides will teach you how to use beacons, and check your safety equipment. It is essential not only to carry avalanche beacons - but also to know how to use them.

During the tour, the guides will also teach avalanche awareness. You will be shown how to dig a snow pit to check the stability of the snow pack. You will also learn some simple tests to check the various layers in the snow.

Then it is time to hit the powder! Kagura makes for classic back-country; amazing views, and incredible powder.

If you are lucky, you may get to see a kamoshika rambling around - Kamoshika are a kind of deer/antelope that can be found along mountains of the area. Snow monkeys, whilst more rare, can also occasionally be found.

To top it off, the tour will be photographed and recorded on video, so you can re-live those powder moments!
